Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Support by Career Centres
Date: Monday, May 4, 2015 to Thursday, May 7, 2015 Venue: Samarkand State University, Samarkand, Uzbekistan
“Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Support by Career Centres”, the 3rd UNIWORK Training Module for staff from Central Asian HEI Career Centres, will take place from May 4th to May 6th in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. Hosted by Samarkand State University, with trainers from the University of Sheffield (United Kingdom), University of Alicante (Spain) and FH Joanneum (Austria), at the end of this training module it is expected that the participants will have a better understanding of:
What enterprise and entrepreneurship education consist in. What they add to students’ experience of higher education and how their skills can be developed. How these educational aspects can be delivered effectively.
A one day project coordination meeting will take place following the Training Module in order to discuss upcoming project activities, notably the organisation of Business Plan Competitions in the UNIWORK partner universities, and the organisation of a “National Forum on Youth Employment and Entrepreneurship” in each of the 5 Central Asian countries during summer 2015.
Tools for engagement through Career Centers
Date: Saturday, March 14, 2015 to Tuesday, March 17, 2015 Venue: KSU, Kokshetau, Kazakhstan
Second training module on ”Tools for engagement through Сareer Сentres” in the framework of UNIWORK project was conducted at Kokshetau State University named after Sh.Ualihanov on 15-17th of March, in Sanatorium Okzhetpes, Burabay region, Kazakhstan. Training was provided by representatives of partner’s Universities from Spain, Austria and Great Britain. During training, to attention of participants from Central Asian HEIs: Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan the following presentations about effective use of IT tools for Career Centers (websites, databases, etc.), strategy analysis tools, market research tools, the effective organization of job and matchmaking events were presented. All the participants were awarded with certificates by the end of the training
The Project Monitoring Uniwork
Date: October 22, 2014 Venue: Bishkek Academy of Finance and Economics
On 22.10.2014 at Bishkek Academy of Finance and Economics held the project monitoring UNIWORK ‘Strengthening Career Centres in Central Asia Higher Education Institutions to empower graduates in obtaining and creating quality employment’ with the program manager of European Executive Agency for education, culture and audiovisual communication Mrs. Roisin McCabe, national coordinator of Erasmus + Office Mrs. G.R Chokusheva and representatives of Regional Partner-Universities, Talas State University and Osh Technological University. Working groups of Institutions submitted their report about Project Realization, talked about the problems that exist at this stage, and also got some recommendations for improving the results of the project from Mrs. Roisin McCabe.
FH Joanneum Study Visit
Date: Monday, March 24, 2014 to Tuesday, March 25, 2014 Venue: FH Joanneum, Graz, Austria
The UNIWORK 2-day Study Visit in Graz/Austria took place between the 24th and 25th of March 2014. It was very important for the hosts to welcome the international guests at the FH JOANNEUM through a short speech given by Professor Dr. Karl Pfeiffer, Rector and Managing Director, as well as by Mag. Dr. Gunter Riegler, Commercial Director.
During the Study Visit the hosts tried to give the partners some insight into FH JOANNEUM's practical teaching approach, the close collaboration between students and professors and the wide range of study programmes and student services offered. Members of FH Joanneum shared their experience in matters of organising a Recruiting Day, managing a Career Center, measures for Career Development, services for students and graduates concerning their Employability, Entrepreneurship and Employability projects at FHJ, and the organization AIESEC and internships were presented during the study visit.
It was an essential issue that the participants were integrated in all these presentations and speeches in order to gain information and also to be able to exchange experiences. This can be identified as very valuable to the UNIWORK project team.
University of Sheffield Study Visit
Date: Thursday, March 20, 2014 to Friday, March 21, 2014 Venue: University of Sheffield, U.K.
The UNIWORK partners participated in a 2-day Study Visit at The University of Sheffield (TUoS), where they had the opportunity to learn first-hand the ample support that this university provides to students to enhance their employability and enterprise skills, as well as the comprehensive assistance and funding available to student entrepreneurs.
The partners were welcomed by Professor Tony Ryan, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Science at TUoS, and were given a number of presentations by the Careers Office, University of Sheffield Enterprise, Students Union, Sheffield Volunteering and 301 Skills Development Centre. The UNIWORK partners also visited some of the university key facilities and learnt about TUoS' different strategies to provide an enriched educational experience in the curriculum as through extra-curricular activities.
The participants were very interested in all aspects of TUoS' Careers Centre, in particular student training (concerning CVs, interview preparation and other useful skills to increase their employability), establishing and maintaining links with businesses, and the JobShop. They were also very interested in the support system that exists at the University of Sheffield Enterprise for start-ups as well as for the emphasis on developing enterprise skills as part of the degrees offered at TUoS.
University of Alicante Study Visit
Date: Monday, March 17, 2014 to Tuesday, March 18, 2014 Venue: University of Alicante, Spain
During the Study Visit, the participants were welcomed to the GIPE by Victor Climent, Senior Manager, who gave them a general presentation on the objectives and organization and structure of the GIPE. He also detailed specific processes used for employment, training attachments, entrepreneurship and career advice. Details were also provided on the selection process and training of staff who work in the GIPE.
Throughout the visit and presentation, Victor pointed out the need of distinguishing between the concepts of employment and employability. Such distinctions must be taken into account when a university career service designs and puts its employment programs into practice.
Employment programs refer to the idea of helping graduates or students to find a job in the universities area of influence. This concept fits in with the pre-European Higher Education Area (EHEA) and pre-globalized context: opportunities in the near context.

At this point there was a discussion among partners concerning the question of whether or not the career service programs are useful to increase the number of job opportunities within the local's university's area of influence. Victor took the opportunity to insist upon the point of analysis within the new European and globalized context. That context suggests the need to:
On the one hand, enlarge the labor market context from local university's area of influence where - depending on the country - graduates can find more or less opportunities, to a non-limited context (wider area) that gives the graduates more opportunities of professional achievements and,
On the other hand, boost the entrepreneurial culture to transfer technology and knowledge from the University to society by creating business activities and job opportunities in the near context.
The partners also showed great interest in the internship program. Internship programs have proven their worth in the transition from education to employment. The Career Service of the University of Alicante has 20 years experience in such programs, so the partners were able to appreciate the evolution of these programs according to the changing circumstances that have been taking place at universities and their economic and educational contexts.
Uniwork Kick-off Meeting

The UNIWORK Kick-off event was held at the University of Alicante (UA) on March 17th 2014, in combination with the Study Visit to the University of Alicante's Career Centre, Gabinete de Iniciativas Para el Empleo - GIPE, on March 18th 2014.
The UNIWORK partners were welcomed to the UA by Vice Rector Juan Llopis and by Alexandra Mayr, the Deputy Director of the International Project Management Office (OGPI).
During the Kick-off Meeting each of the Partners gave a short presentation on their institution, while the rest of the Meeting was dedicated to an overview of the UNIWORK project (general project presentation and objectives) and its management (Workflow, Project Management Board, Quality Board, Financial management, Project Intranet), as well as a more detailed look at the different work packages:
- WP1 - Generating a knowledge base and identifying good practices (methodology and update)
- WP2 - Capacity building (training plans and materials, language skills, training of trainers, practical placements)
- WP3 - Strengthening organisational capacities of career centres (modernisation action plans, technical capacities and databases)
- WP4 - Networking actions for active stakeholder inclusion (working groups, business brunches, alumni networks, national and regional for, policy white papers)
